11 Eyelash Extension Questions Answered by a Dallas Lash Salon

With lash extensions being the hottest trend in beauty right now, many people have been considering booking an appointment to have them applied. As with any other new procedure, you may have many questions about the products used, the care requirements, and the process itself. Here are 11 of the most commonly asked questions, answered by an experienced Luxx Lash Salon & Boutique artist.

  1. How do I know if eyelash extensions right for me?

For anyone with natural eyelashes, false lashes are a great way to enhance your natural look. It is a small change with a large impact, allowing you to have a seemingly-natural and sexy look all day from the moment you wake up. No matter if you prefer full glam or minimal makeup, are a bride-to-be or just want them for day-to-day, lash extensions makes your peepers pop for a look that is unforgettable.

  1. What happens during a lash extension procedure?

Your appointment will usually begin with a 10 to 15 minute consultation for your lash artist to get to know you and the kind of look and texture you desire. You will then be reclined with your eyes closed while the lash stylist applies the lashes individually onto your own natural lashes with a safe and high quality adhesive. We recommend bringing in some of your favorite music and some earphones to help you relax and enjoy the relaxation time.

  1. How long does it take to apply the lashes?

Depending on the desired look, the entire lash application process can take anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 hours for a full set.

  1. What are the do’s and don’ts for maintaining false eyelashes?

With proper care, your new eyelashes can last up to 8 weeks. You will want to avoid exposing your lashes to dirt, oil, and immersing them in water for an extended period of time. We recommend applying a lash extender product, which adds a silky layer of protection and adds to their longevity, in addition to visiting your eye lash extension salon every 2 to 3 weeks for a lash refill.

  1. Will getting eye lash extensions have any affect on my natural lash growth?

No – extensions have no affect on the natural growing pattern of your lashes. As your natural lashes regularly shed and grow, the average person loses 2 to 3 lashes per day. This pattern continues without any interruption from your extensions. The false lashes will simply shed along with your natural lashes.

  1. Do eyelash extensions hurt?

You will not feel any pain during the entire application process. In fact, you should be able to fall asleep in your reclined chair as your eye lash stylist works. If you do feel any pain, it means that there is something wrong in the application. The best way to avoid this is to do a bit of research prior to making your appointment to find a certified and experienced salon with licensed lash stylists. Take some time to read reviews and testimonials. This will help you learn more about the general customer experience at a particular salon.

  1. What types of eyelashes are available for me to choose from?

Depending on your desired overall look, you can choose from standard extensions or volume eyelashes (also called 3D lashes), which are naturally darker and allow multiple extensions to be added to one single eyelash. Ask your salon about the availability of mink lashes, which are 100% Siberian mink animal hair. Mink eyelash extensions are fine and lightweight, which makes them blend in with your natural lashes.

  1. Do I need to wear mascara with my eyelashes?

One of the biggest advantages of eyelash extensions is the eliminated need for mascara. Each individual eye lash extension is thick and dark, which makes it appear as though you have mascara on. It is actually recommended to avoid mascara entirely as many varieties contain oil that can break down the adhesive and cause the lashes to fall out.

  1. Can I wear any eye makeup with lash removing makeup with eyelash extensionsextensions?

Yes, you can wear eye makeup with extensions. However, steer clear away from any products with oil as they can be harmful to the glue that keeps the artificial lashes attached to your natural ones. When removing your makeup, use an oil-free makeup remover and avoid your lash line completely. Use a cosmetic sponge to remove the makeup rather than a cotton ball or pad, which can leave cotton residue stuck in your lashes.

  1. What conditions would prevent me from getting Xtreme lashes?

If you are allergic to latex, lash extensions are not for you as latex products and tools are used throughout the procedure. If you have you have a thyroid issue or are undergoing chemotherapy, your lashes are weaker due to medical treatments. Consult with your doctor about the safety of the procedure.

  1. When and how do I remove the fake eye lashes?

As mentioned previously, false lashes shed along with your natural eyelashes and will be completely removed in about 90 days. If you wish to remove your fake eyelashes sooner, schedule an appointment with your salon to have them professionally removed. Removal is painless and usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

What to Expect During an Eyebrow Waxing

It’s no secret that a pair of bold eyebrows are the ultimate beauty accessory right now. In fact, many women are growing out their thin and over-plucked eyebrows to reclaim their natural eyebrow shape, and many others are looking for alternative services such as eyebrow extensions to add boldness to their brows. As such a prominent facial feature, impeccably shaped eyebrows can transform an entire face – especially when paired with eyelash extensions!

Having statement eyebrows does not have to mean forgoing brow grooming altogether. Even when you are growing out an area of your eyebrows, you should still be shaping and trimming to prevent them from looking messy. One of the best ways to maintain your eyebrow shape is eyebrow waxing. Compared to tweezing and threading, waxing allows for the longest period before regrowth. Hence, it is a popularly preferred by women as a brow grooming technique.

Whether you are cleaning up your natural eyebrows or maintaining a certain shape, eyebrow waxing If you are thinking about booking your first eyebrow waxing appointment, here are a few things that you should know:

Schedule Your Waxing Appointment Around Important Events

During the first few hours following your waxing appointment, the waxed area may appear red. If you have sensitive skin, this could last even longer. Hence, it is recommended that you avoid scheduling your first eyebrow waxing appointment on the same day as an important event – especially if you expect to take photos and have photos take of you.

A Trim May Be Included

Maintenance of your eyebrows does not only require removing excess hairs, but trimming long ones as well. Leaving long hairs could effect the shape of the eyebrows and cause them to look messy. Don’t worry if you see a pair of trimmers – it’s all part of the process.

The Regrowth Needs to Be Long Enough

If you’ve had any other part of your body waxed before, you know that the hair must grow to a certain length before it can be removed again. Otherwise, the wax will not be able to grasp the hair firmly enough to remove it. Typically, you should expect to need an appointment every 3 to 4 weeks.

The Pain Will Lessen Over TimeEyebrow waxing Dallas salon

The first time you have your eyebrows waxed, you can expect to experience some discomfort. This is due to the fact that the hair is thick and because there is more to remove. However, the more you wax your eyebrows, the thinner the hair and the less will need to be removed. Each appointment will be less painful than the other until it’s a breeze each time!

Use a Numbing Cream to Minimize Any Discomfort

If you are worried about the pain of your first waxing appointment, apply some topical numbing cream to your eyebrows and the skin around them about 30 minutes before your appointment. This can do wonders in minimizing the discomfort you may feel and can also be used for waxing any other area of your body. Rubbing ice on and around your eyebrows after your appointment also helps decrease any swelling that may occur and helps the fade the redness. During your appointment, ask your beauty salon if they have any available.

5 Tips for Exquisite Eyelash Extensions All Summer Long

Your calendar is full of pool parties, surf dates, beach volleyball games, and some free time set aside for you to laze around on the beach – it’s SUMMER! With a new bikini, glowing suntan, and dazzling eyelash extensions, you’re ready for all of the fun and excitement that your favorite season brings. Eyelash extensions are a girl’s best friend during the months when you’d rather be basking in the sun than sitting in front the mirror applying your makeup. It’s the most versatile part of summer fashion, keeping you looking great whether you’re diving into the pool or rocking out at a summer concert. With all of the fun that comes with summer, the raised temperatures and water exposure require a bit more maintenance. Here are 5 tips to keep your lashes looking great all summer.

1. Keep fresh lashes away from water for the first 48 hours.

During the first 2 days after your eyelash application, the adhesive creates a bond between the synthetic lash and your natural lash. Any contact with moisture can disrupt this process by damaging the glue and causing even the best eyelash extensions to shed prematurely. To avoid this, plan the application of your extensions to be at least 3 days before a pool party or trip to the beach. Also, stay out of the heat for long periods of time as sweat can do harm to your lashes as well. In addition, take baths instead of steamy showers and take extra care when washing around the face area, avoiding your eyes completely.

 2. Be gentle when drying off after a swim.

Once the first 48 hours have passed, you can safely resume all of the water activities that we enjoy so much in the summer. However, do not rub your eyes with a towel after getting out of the pool. The friction can loosen lashes at the root and cause them to shed. Instead, simply pat the skin around your eyes dry.

3. Keep away the sunscreen.

Without a doubt, the key to a safe and enjoyable summer is protecting your skin from the sun’s harsh rays. However, the chemicals within the sunscreen can damage your lashes and irritate your eyes. As a rule, it is best to keep sunscreen away from your eyes when applying it – regardless of whether or not you have eyelash extensions. However, it is especially important to be careful when you do.

4. Don’t get dried out.

Texas heat is no stranger to Dallas lash extension lovers. However, while you may be accustomed to the warm conditions, your xtreme lashes are not. The high temperatures can cause your lashes to become brittle. If not taken care of properly, you could find your eyelashes falling out. Invest in a protective product, such as Xtreme Protective Coating, available exclusively at Luxx Lash Salon and Boutique. While it is normally recommended to apply the coating once or twice a week, the summer months require usage once every other day. Keep it handy in your beach bag for easy access when you’re out in the sun for an extended period of time. This will keep your eyelashes looking luscious and healthy throughout the summer.

5. Get rid of that waterproof eye makeup.Volume lashes summertime

One of the greatest benefits of false lashes is that they eliminate the need for mascara and/or eyeliner. That being said, many clients prefer to continue using eye makeup. If this is the case, be sure to stay away from waterproof varieties, as they require a heavy amount of friction to remove. Instead, wear regular mascara and use a non-oil based makeup remover to cleanse. Oil-based products naturally break down the adhesive, displacing the synthetic lashes. However, we highly recommend freeing yourself from that tube of mascara entirely as you will not need it.

Eyelash extensions are the perfect summer accessory. By caring for them properly, you can wake up each morning with full, glamorous lashes that will keep you looking fabulous wherever your summer adventures take you. No matter how busy your summer gets, be sure to visit your favorite lash salon for routine maintenance every 3 weeks to keep them in tip-top shape.
